feedbacks
Website looks cluttered and confusing. Too much text and very few pictures. Hard to explore tourist places — not engaging.
Case Study on Medium (by Omkar Mangalekar)
Users said: “App needs better UI and UX, please make it easier to use.”
App Store Reviews
People think the website is not easy to use. Low interactivity — users can’t personalize or explore easily. Booking system is weak, not smooth. Only “trust” part (official logo, etc.) feels okay.

Old Website Review
I analyzed maharashtra tourism websites to identify common mistakes, missing features, and sections that only needed better UI alignment instead of complete replacement

When users scroll down and then back up, this section takes up half the screen, which creates a poor prototype experience.
There is excessive whitespace, which affects the overall balance and usability of the layout.
Social media links should be placed in the last section for a cleaner UI.
Photo and information about government officers should be placed on a separate page to avoid distracting users.
The layout contains excessive whitespace, resulting in a cluttered and unpolished UI.
This section should be placed at the end, after the About and Social Media Links sections.
Sticky social media links create a poor UI experience. Instead of persistent links, consider adding an AI chat option for better user interaction.
Low-quality images and videos reduce user engagement. High-quality media is more visually appealing and can attract more people. These visuals play a significant role in promoting tourism growth in Maharashtra.
The Update section can be merged into the About section.
Currently, the gallery displays only one image, even though multiple images can be added. It would be better to either showcase different images within the gallery or redirect users to a separate page where they can browse images by categories such as hill stations, temples, etc.
Half of the information can be moved to the
last page (About section), including About,
Schemes & Policies, Citizen Corner, Tenders,
Skills & Trainings, Contact Us, and 100 Days
Program Reports.
What info goes in this section discover Maharashtra, tourist interest, book my trip, digital media library, map
If the user hovers over the post, and it is a reel or video, it should play automatically without sound.
In the Book My Trip section,
travel packages can be added.

It’s a good idea to add a YouTube video, but the YouTube logo and name are overlapping with mt. logo and appear too large.
Note: The information and website structure mentioned here are based on the version available during the research phase. The official Maharashtra Tourism website may have changed or been updated since then.
Redesign Approach
By conducting research and gathering insights from users, case studies, and reviews, the goal of this redesign is to improve the Maharashtra Tourism website’s overall user experience.
Goals
Better visual structure & UI alignment
Highlight destinations through immersive imagery
Simplified navigation
Responsive + adaptive layout
Maintain government identity with modern design
Wirframe

In the top header section, I added the logo, search bar, and language selection options to provide users with quick access to essential settings.
Integrated visuals of Maharashtra’s landscapes, cultural videos, and photographs to enhance visual appeal and storytelling
Added a section highlighting upcoming events, festivals, seasonal foods, and short-term attractions like the Kaas Plateau, famous for its limited-time flower bloom.
Designed a minimal and essential navigation bar to highlight only the most important features.
Added an AI chatbot pinned at the bottom-right corner to help users quickly plan their trips and ask questions about destinations or services.
Added a photo gallery in a slideshow format to make exploring visuals more engaging.
Highlighted foods that are unique to Maharashtra, showcasing the state’s authentic culinary specialties.
Integrated YouTube videos from Maharashtra Tourism’s official channel, allowing users to play and explore suggested videos directly on the website. Added vlog-style and cinematic videos showcasing Maharashtra’s beauty more vividly than photos or short clips, creating an immersive storytelling experience. A direct link to the official YouTube channel is also provided for users to explore more content.
Added all social media links and latest posts to keep users updated and encourage engagement.
Added a footer containing key links and references to related government and tourism websites for easy navigation.
Added an ‘Affiliated Initiatives’ section with an automatic right-to-left sliding animation to display partner programs smoothly.
Added a section featuring images of travelers exploring Maharashtra to make the website more authentic and relatable.
Added digital brochures and tourist guidebooks for easy access to detailed travel information.

Learnings
I learned that government websites can be modern and user-friendly without losing their authentic identity. Focusing on visual balance, spacing, and clear structure greatly improves readability and trust. Even at the wireframe stage, thoughtful layout and flow have a major impact on overall usability.
Future Improvements
If I had more time to work on this project, I’d focus on enhancing the overall user experience through better storytelling and interactivity. My goal would be to make the website not just informative but truly inspiring for travelers. I’d introduce rich, high-quality visuals to capture Maharashtra’s cultural and natural diversity — addressing the current limitation of limited media availability online. As a UIUX designer, I’d also explore adding personalized recommendations, interactive maps, and an improved booking flow to create a more seamless and engaging journey from exploration to conversion.
